Fingerpaints - Paper Mache (and fun from the craft store)

APPLICATION: A little thick, but smooth
COATS: 2
TOPCOAT?: Yes, Beauty Secrets Fast Dry
SOURCE: Sally Beauty Supply
COMMENTS: I certainly didn't plan to do a plain white mani - that would have been too stark. I've seen a few other bloggers do "newsprint" manis, and like the look of the print on the nails. I have no newsprint, so came up with my own version using rub-ons from the craft store (normally used for scrapbooking). I applied the quick dry topcoat after Paper mache, and when dry enough, rubbed the words/portions of words on, then some images.  Followed the rub-ons with a coat of INM Northern Lights - silver for a bit of sparkle, and finally a layer of topcoat. I love it! So simple but so awesome!

  13. rub on's work? awesome! okay..i'm not exactly sure how you managed to rub it on and not smear/ dent your white. This will be a trial an error for me. thanks for sharing

I hate hate hate white nails only because I have yet to find a white nail polish that isn't chalky and goopy. argh! butI think white nails are the perfect canvas for everything.

  14. So clever! How did the rub-ons wear--did they last as long as nail decals would?

  15. Thanks for all your comments! In response to KarenD's question:
The rub-ons are really thin, so don't show a visible line as much as a nail sticker would. Also, they are sealed in with topcoat, so they're there to stay! I doubt that they would last long without a layer of topcoat over them.

  18. I had NO idea that rub ons could be used on nails - this is so creative and I love it! This trend is def going to become huge! How do you get the edges of your nails looking so crisp? I have trouble with that when I do my nails myself. A friend recently gifted me liquid palisade by kiesque but I have yet to test it out - have you ever tried it? She got it online at liquidpalisade.com and apparently it really helps.

  19. @shortewidenails - I put on a coat of quick dry topcoat after the two coats of white so I did have to wait till it was dry enough to handle a bit of pressure.

@Anonymous - I'm hoping that those who have trouble with konad/fauxnad stamping might find this an easier option like I did. I love that it's not messy and there are no time constraints, so I can take my time with placement. To clean up my cuticles (which I admit I sometimes don't bother with), I use the "MeganChair" method, with a brush and acetone. Here is a link to her wonderful tutorial on it:
