I've been duped by Beauty Secrets!

SOURCE: Sally Beauty Supply
COMMENTS: I usually buy the large 2.5oz bottles of Beauty Secrets fast finish topcoat and use them to refill my smaller bottle. However, the last time I went to Sally Beauty Supply, I saw this bottle that was a bit larger than the small .5oz bottle for the same price, and greedy little me, I snatched it up. Well, it came back to bite me when I finished my last manicure. My nails are usually dry by the time I go pick up the camera and return for photos. This time they were still very tacky. I first thought it was the polish (the new brand from Walmart), but then I checked my toes, which had been done with a different brand 20 minutes before, and they were still tacky too! Ugh! Needless to say, I had to dig out my original quick dry topcoat and add a layer to both tips and toes.

Now I understand why some people say the "blue" Beauty Secrets topcoat from Sally Beauty Supply never dries - they made the same mistake I did and picked up the wrong one!

So be warned - Make sure the bottle you pick up (in either size) says "FAST FINISH POLISH DRYER". If it doesn't, put it down and walk away!

  1. Hey, I used to use that brand, too! and usually, their topcoats look to be color coded...BUMMER!!! I stopped buying them because getting to the second half of ANY of their bottle was such a chore, LOL!!!

  3. I tried the big clear one and it dried slow like the small blue one. Does the big blue one smudge?

  5. Aww. I wish I'd gone to Sally's this Friday instead of last. I just picked up a big bottle of the "top coat" sans fast finish. It didn't dry at all for me either. Grrr @ Beauty Secrets!! *sniffles*

  6. Well I don't think it's fair to say you were "duped," because that sounds as if they intentionally deceived you. But that wasn't the case as one of the bottles clearly says "fast finish" and one doesn't. Might it not be more correct to say that you made a mistake? Believe me, I've made plenty...

  7. @Anonymous: I say I was duped because at the time of posting that is exactly how I felt. The fact that this was sitting in the same exact "holder" as the fast finish bottles that are .5oz at both of the stores I went to certainly did not help matters either. The hardeners, base coat, and cuticle oils are all kept separate as are the different sized bottles. This is the one exception where everything was mixed together.
If it is a separate product, I expect to see a separate holder and labeled description and price tag. It's not that complicated.

  8. How does this (the actual quick dry version) compare to SV? I use their pink base coat and love it! If I could find an affordable alternative to SV I'd be delighted :) Thanks

  9. @AngieP: I use their base coat as well and love it. SV is the undeniable winner when it comes to speed. However, I prefer this topcoat because my first nail is still dry to the touch by the time I'm done putting it on my last nail. It also stays shiny (unlike Out the Door, which I also tried for a while, and didn't dry as quickly) and can be applied over both slightly wet and dry nail polish.
I usually go to bed 10-15 minutes after applying my topcoat and they're fine.

  10. Does this top coat smudge nail art? I recently bought the Orly Sec N' Dry top coat to replace my SV and it smudged everything so badly :(

  11. @melanieeatsghosts: I use this over all my nail art. However, it will smudge Konad special polish if used over it right after stamping. I always just try to make sure I load my brush with enough topcoat that the brush bristles themselves don't touch my nail, and that works fine over art using regular polish and acrylic paint.

  12. I think they may have reformulated this version of topcoat. :( After seeing this post last week I made a point of looking at the bottles at Sally's and even the big bottle didn't have much text on it anymore and said nothing about being fast dry. I'm heartbroken since this was easily my favorite topcoat and I'm right at out of it.
