I was asked by someone if the nail polishes would stain the nails. I decided to wear the Blue and Ocean ones with three other blue polishes of similar finish (jelly/see-through) to compare.

Stamped with gold and silver chrome nail polishes.
Much to my surprise (and dislike), even though I put a layer of topcoat between the polish and the stamping, when I put a final layer of topcoat on the manicure, the Mia Secret colors went through and stained the stamped patterns. This means they will not work well as bases for stamping.
After removal - Nyx Girls stained the worst:

After brushing with whitening toothpaste, still some staining from the Mia Secrets:
** Después del cepillado con pasta de dientes blanqueadora, todavía algunas manchas de Mia Secrets:
I had a base coat on, but as you can see, it didn't prevent staining. The Mia Secret stains remained on the parts of my nails that were peeling. Make sure to use a thick coat of base coat if you use them directly on your nails!

What kind of base coat are you using?
ReplyDeleteI love you and your stamping prowess! Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteEven though they stained a bit, and I think that is a common problem with highly pigmented np on many brands, They all looked gorgeous and the xmas stamping looked grand!!!
ReplyDeleteHelp! What gold polish do you use for stamping? Please don't say China Glaze's 2030 cause I can't find this one anywhere.
ReplyDeleteMerry Xmas to you all.
interesting and informative post, and i loved the blue and snowflake mani!
ReplyDeleteOooh. I always hated that when I had peeling nails, the color would adhere to the peeling area. They look good after you scrubbed them!
ReplyDeleteAlthough they're not good for a base, it's still a really pretty manicure and it almost looks like you did it on purpose.
Happy holidays!
Thanks for all the great comments! Questions answered:
ReplyDelete@vita86: The base coat I use is Beauty Secrets moisturizing base coat. I've noticed that I always have less staining on my right hand because I tend to apply polish thicker on that hand, so I'll just have to start using a thicker coat when I think my color coat might stain.
@Maud: Both polishes used for stamping are from the Sally Hansen nail polish pens in Gold and Silver Chrome. I don't know if these can still be found in the regular drugstore lineup, but I've seen them (along with a few other chromes) at the 99c only store and at Big Lots. I decanted the polishes into mini bottles to make them easier to use for stamping. Hope that helps!
Merry Christmas!
Vou testar. Obrigada pela dica.
ReplyDeletebeijos e Feliz Natal!
Ooooh, good idea for the polish pens! That is wild about the colors changing the stamped colors, but really, it does look cool as a "blue Chrome", hehehe. I have seen some of the chrome polish pens still available in our area walgreens. Merry late Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteI actually really like the way the stain went through to the stamped pattern. Also, I just nominated you for the Versatile Blogger award, which you may have gotten before ... but either way, I linked to your blog in my last post. Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteThat NYX polish is the bane of my existence. It stained my nails too back in the summer, and I had to scrub my nails for 2 days to get rid of the staining. Thank God I didn't use it on all my nails.
ReplyDeletethanks for the swatch and reviews of all the colors! :)
ReplyDeleteI think the effect is really kind of cool, looks like the stamped pattern is underwater or something!
